Normally I avoid this. But in the shadow of Kim Davis controversy, I believe that if it is your custom or belief, then go ahead and say what it is you normally say. It should not be an offensive thing to say Merry Christmas to someone who, for example, is Jewish and does not celebrate it. Same in reverse: If they say Happy Hanukkah, then don't be offended if you don't celebrate it.
